NEW SINGLE: "Breaking Down In Real Time"
2nd single from the album BLIP by NAHreally & The Expert is out now.
Hey,
So I’m delighted to say that the second single by NAHreally & The Expert,“Breaking Down In Real Time”, is out now and you can stream it using the link below. Keep scrolling for more info on the track itself.
The song features the wonderful Open Mike Eagle, who is a bit of a hip hop legend, so we are delighted to have him on this track. Mike has a deep discography and history in hip hop. Along with being an incredible rapper, he works in tv, film and runs his own podcast network Stoney Island Audio. If you are a fan of hip hop podcasts and haven’t checked out DadBodRapPod, The Questions Hip Hop Trivia and What Had Happened Was amongst others, then I would highly recommend.
“Breaking Down In Real Time” is the second taste of what to expect from our upcoming collaborative album ‘BLIP’. The album is out March 29th on vinyl and all digital platforms via Rucksack Records and is available to pre-order now.
This song was one of the very first beats I sent NAHreally. We tried one or two ideas on it that didn’t work initially. Then NAH recorded the demo of this idea with 1 verse and hook and we sat on it for a while. As momentum began to build about creating an album, we decided we would make up a wish list of potential featured artists to collaborate with. NAH is a huge Open Mike Eagle fan so he was his first choice but wasn’t sure if we could make that happen.
I had previously been in contact with Nate LeBlanc from Dad Bod Rap Pod (on Mike’s Stoney Island Audio podcast network) when my instrumental album “Excursions” came out as he liked it. We had since been in touch a few times so I asked him for Mike’s contact details and delighted to say it all came together as planned!
The Production:
For me, it’s a pretty chilled out feel, with quite a lot of intricate vocal effects and guitar stabs. I spent a lot of time ensuring it felt really relaxed during the verses while still having enough subtly going on so its a cool headphones listen. The production is really formed around the bass line but I wanted to incorporate a few changes. The first was bringing in the banging drums for the first chorus and then switching up into vocal chorus to break the verse up. In Mike’s section I just wanted to make sure there was space for his entrance and then drop outs and effects to happen at all the key moments before transition back to the final chorus. Real happy with how this one turned out. To read about how NAHreally wrote the song and lyrics, please read his Substack post here.
A huge thank you to anyone who has pre-ordered the album already. Means a LOT. Feel free to send any messages, thoughts to me on what you think to help build our community.
Talk soon,
Ex.
