Bobby Wilson “Don’t Shut Me Out”
Bobby Wilson is the son of the legendary soul singer Jackie Wilson, and certainly seemed to inherit his father's vocal talents. His performance in "Don't Shut Me Out" showcases a rich and soulful voice, over dare I say a very Marvin Gaye-esque production. It’s lush and glorious.
Mac Miller “What’s The Use”
So I was deleting old emails in my inbox the other day and found an email I sent to Mac Miller with a beat in 2013. I had utterly no recollection of sending it to him and unsurprisingly received no response. Anyway it reminded me of what an utterly amazing track this is by him. THAT BASS LINE! This is just some beautiful feel good shit. Always really liked Mac and thought he seemed damn cool - real loss.
The Stepkids: “Suburban Dream”
Ok so this is right up my alley. I love this song, album and band so much. They blend soul, psychedelic rock, R&B, and electronic elements so well into their music, while combining intricate vocal harmonies, smooth melodies, and experimental production techniques. They released two albums on Stones Throw Records and if you have not checked out their debut album, I thoroughly recommend it.
Paul McCartney: “Check My Machine”
I love when a superstar musician makes a good wig-out track. This was originally a B-side where McCartney was basically figuring out all his new synths and gear in his home studio to see how they all worked and came up with this dope track. A real testament to his ongoing exploration of styles, sounds and technology.
Jungle Brothers: “How Ya Want It We Got It (Native Tongues Mix)”
Now this is a bloody tune! I love this beat so much. Native Tongues coming together for a real unheralded and often forgotten classic posse cut.
Anyway I hope you enjoy these tracks and find something that rocks your world. Feel free to let me know what you think.
Finally a big thank you to anyone who has been listening to my new single “Breaking Down In Real Time” with NAHreally featuring Open Mike Eagle. New album “BLIP” is getting closer to release and looking forward to people checking it out.
Talk soon,
